Albert
to the Rescue
Artist
Capt. Rob Arsenault (14 SES) captures 103 Rescue Unit’s Albatross
303 as
she takes-off from the Bay of Fundy on yet another rescue mission.
A
total of 10 Grumman G-111 “Alberts” were acquired by the RCAF on
5 August 1960, serving in the Search and Rescue role until 17
December 1970.
Albatross
303 initially served with 102 Rescue Unit (RCAF Station
Trenton, Ont.); then 103 Rescue Unit (RCAF Station Greenwood) until
July 1968 and finally with 413 Squadron (CFB Summerside).
The
triphibian Albatross could operate from land, water and ice.
It
was often used for open ocean operations when the sea state and wind
conditions permitted landings and take-offs.
